Wild Healers 2.0 – Part I: Oils

Wild Healers is a face, body, and hair oil crafted from wild-gathered herbs and organic, cold-pressed sweet almond and jojoba oils. It was one of our most popular products last year, and this year, it’s even better! We kept our four healing wild herbs and added FOUR MORE. That’s right — that’s twice the herbal power. I think. I can’t do math. EITHER WAY, we got even more wild and healthy with this one. We kept our base of nettle, plantain, self-heal, and yarrow plants and added red clover, deadnettle, burdock, and chickweed. That’s so much skin-healing power.

This week, let’s talk about the oils that go into making Wild Healers: sweet almond and jojoba. The oils we use for skin applications are cold-pressed — a natural extraction method that only uses mechanical pressure to extract oils from a plant source — which results in a pure, nutrient-dense, higher quality product. No heat is added, so the natural compounds in the oil remain unchanged, increasing the potency and keeping their therapeutic properties. No chemicals or solvents are used, so the oils remain pure and free of any contaminants. This process is also more environmentally-friendly, as the leftover plant materials can be composted.

Great, cool, we love that these oils are pure as hell and better for the planet — but what makes them so special and effective on our entire human suit? Let’s get into that!

Skin: Both jojoba and sweet almond oils are natural emollients (they soothe and soften skin) and are non-comedogenic (they won’t clog pores). Both are also lightweight and close to our skin’s natural sebum — meaning they won’t impact oil production and are less likely to cause acne and are quickly absorbed. Both oils can also help reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and hyperpigmentation. ALSO, both are gentle and effective in treating the symptoms of problem skin like redness, dryness, itchiness, and flaking. ALSO ALSO, both can be used on minor cuts, burns, bites, and scratches to help speed up the healing process and add their anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties.

Hair: Remember one paragraph ago about these oils being emollients? Well that works on hair, too — meaning it will soften your hair and make it smoother to the touch. Both oils are great for conditioning, which means they will improve the strength of your hair and reduce breakage, tame frizz, and decrease the likelihood of split ends. The antibacterial and anti-fungal properties of these oils also make them wonderful for the scalp, underarms, and groin area — they won’t clog your hair follicles, provide hydration without affecting oil production, and help soothe itchiness, flakiness, and irritation. And because these oils protect and seal your hair fibers, they are great for helping combat damage due to heat-styling, dry indoor air, and UV exposure.

Nails: The quick-absorbing power of sweet almond and jojoba oil strikes again! Remember how they mimic our skin’s natural oils? That means they’re going to be soaked up fast by your nails and cuticles and won’t leave your fingertips greasy. The Vitamin E content will nourish and soothe cracked or flaking nails and dry cuticles. The same protective, healing properties that help seal your hair fibers will also aid in strengthening brittle nails and repairing damage from manicures, over-exposure to water, or natural aging.

So who benefits most from these oils? I hope the obvious answer is everyone, but just in case it’s not, these oils are great for people who:

  • Have skin (whether it’s dry, oily, normal, or a combination)
  • Have hair (on ANY part of the body!)
  • Have nails (whether manicured, natural, or like Carla’s — barely there)
  • Deal with skin sensitivities (these oils are gentle AF and help with healing)
  • Don’t want chemicals in their skincare (cold-pressed, bayBAY!)
  • Work outside (they combat damage due to both UV and water exposure)
  • Are pregnant (they help reduce the formation and appearance stretch marks)
  • Are dark-skinned (they treat hyperpigmentation and ashy skin SO GOOD)
  • Deal with seasonal changes affecting their skin (fall and spring are garbage for the skin)
  • Get winter-damaged skin (either from cold outdoor air OR dry indoor heat)
  • Are young (keep that skin supple, child!)
  • Are old (let’s preserve what moisture we have left!)

WOW! I’m sure that covers at least one of your issues, right? And that’s just the oil part of Wild Healers. . . next week we’ll go over the EIGHT HEALING HERBS that go into this wildcrafted, skin-loving potion.
